Namecheap Review: 7 important points to know (2020 Customer Reviews)
They are cheap, are they reliable?
I like their features some of them is Free domain, Free SSL Certificate, Cheap price, average response time, free domain and website transfer service, free automatic backups.
I don't like their customer support, up-time very poor, security limited in terms of server security, renewal pricing are 300% high.
- Easy to Use
I believe Namecheap can be the hosting option for newcomers and fresh websites only because when it comes to long time performance I can't recommend this host.
Newcomers also can have issue if they need customer support because I don't think they have enough talented staff to manage customers.
Table of Contents
Namecheap is founded in 2000 by current CEO and founder Richard Kirkendall and it is an ICANN-accredited domain name registration company. As per 2018 Inc. 5000 american company growth survey Namecheap is the fastest growing company because of their services and cheap pricing. Who are going to celebrate their 2 decades in the domain and hosting service industry. It is not surprising they already registered 10 million domains after they started only because their domain pricing which can be great deal for anyone.
You can find any domain with any extension using their beast domain search mode also you can get 1 domain for free if you purchase hosting package from Namecheap which comes with free SSL certificate, Free WhoisGuard privacy protection which you may find with hosting plans in rare case.
Namecheap has 2 main datacenters which located in Phoenix, Arizona, USA and Nottingham, Midlands, UK.
Still they have main datacenter in USA based which has all servers located there if it is shared, VPS or Dedicated hosting servers. UK based datacenter is new which they started using for Shared hosting first also it is more costly because they using there more advanced and new technologies to boost your website performance.
You can also change your website from USA to UK based datacenter you need to request them by using customer support.
I’ve looking Namecheap for long time like 10 years because they have really attractive pricing on domain names. But their hosting services are not that bright in start but after they growing up they invested much amount of money to improve their server strength.
Before 3 year I started my journey with their hosting services too and still I have their cheap hosting plan which I use to collect up-time and response time data.
Have they been able to replicate their domain name success in a new arena? Or are they simply trading on their name alone? (Pun definitely intended.)
Because they are cheap I was not sure are they good hosting provider too? for that I tested their all 7 important points which I prefer to test before go with any hosting provider.
I have their 2 year up-time and response time history report based on pingdom application which I use to collect hosting server tracking.
Pricing are no doubt cheap and attractive for any one which I don’t need to test in case of Namecheap.
I reviewed their Security system and features which I will explain in details where they stand in terms of security.
Customer support is average I found by dealing with them I can say support is not too bad.
Also I gone through their control panel and cPanel which actually easy to use everything you can see clear with instructions which is important for newcomers.
Features wise they are good enough give you bunch of premium free features which could be useful for anyone like Free SSL Certificate, Free Domain Privacy, Easy to Use Drag and Drop website builder where you can start your website within a minute also they give you 1-click app installation wizard called Softaculous which includes 400+ open source CMS, Forums, Wikis, Blogs and Social Network applications.
Who Should Consider Namecheap?
Namecheap is good for anyone who likes cheap hosting service and also useful for beginners who are just starting their small website or blog can start with Namecheap hosting.
Because of their performance I might not recommend Namecheap for anyone who really want to invest for great output.
Namecheap Response Time
Why response time is matter? because if you are visitor and site loading is slow what would you think? in that case I tracking down Namecheap shared hosting server from last 3 years and found some results of response time which are Not bad! an average response time I got from last 24 months test is 711 ms that is also an average response time of by industry standard for any Shared Hosting plan excluding few hosting providers like Hostinger, inMotion Hosting and A2 Hosting.
See below chart for last 24 months response time history.
Note: The results above are from USA based datacenter their UK datacenter servers are even faster because of new technologies used in it.
Namecheap Up-time Peformance
I am using Namecheap Shared hosting Stellar plan to track their server up-time from last 3 years.
Why up-time is matter for my website? Up-time matters for your website because if your website is hosted on third party server and if server is down no one can reach your content it is that simple.
And here is the theory more up-time better performance on search engines more down-time worst performance on search engines because some time they wan’t find your website because of down-time and think that you are not caring your website why should we care?
I have last 2 year up-time history report which you can see in below chart.

Namecheap Security Features
Security is the real deal to go with any hosting provider because your data is your business and if your data is not safe your business in risk.
I gone through Namecheap security features there is multiple as follow:
Namecheap VPS to protect your server IP, This feature is paid starting at $1.88/mo can be used on unlimited devices.
Get free WhoisGuard with your free or paid domain name, this feature is to protect domain owner identity.
You can have PremiumDNS which is paid actually can cost $5 per year, of course you get DNS with your domain but this feature is extra for better up-time performance.
Free SSL Certificate
SSL Certificate now day’s become compulsory feature to get better performance on search engines also it can help to boot visitors trust.
Two Factor Authentication
Two factor authentication is one more feature you may found in rare case from hosting providers which you have to secure your control panel access without your permission by phone number or email.
Easy to Use?
You get two different control panel 1 for your personal use where you can see and manage your order, billing information, profile details, products that you purchased, domain DNS and so.
I have only one issue with Namecheap My Account Control Panel, I need to find the place where I can enter to the cPanel if Namecheap could provide cPanel button direct on top or sidebar with highlighted color it will be really helpful for their customers.
Namecheap is using evergreen cPanel as control panel which is most common and easy to use control panel so far.
30-Day Money-Back Guarantee
Money back guarantee is most important for any online business now days to attract customers who want to try service or product.
So do Namecheap have 30-Day full money back guarantee after using their services if you don’t like service or changed your mind or found better service you get 100% money back for your hosting plan which didn’t included free domain registration fees and other extra add-ons which you purchased.
I check every hosting providers customer support personally as well as real customers review what they feel.
If I say my personal experience it was smooth got answered most of my questions like how to upgrade from plan A to plan B? what if want refund? and also I asked some technical question for example how can I connect my cPanel git feature with my git repository they answered in very easy way which I like but it was in my case it doesn’t mean all customers have same experience with Namecheap customer support.
To investigate more what image real customers has about Namecheap I went to the BBB (Better Business Bureau) most respected business verified review firm I found it is not the case they are not good as I think.
See below BBB has given (F) certificate and customer review you can see has only one star.
Basically I believe in people voice most people has not good experience with Namecheap support ans services also as I seen from authentic customer reviews.
Also they have appreciable Knowledgebase section where you can find hundreds of articles, tutorials and FAQs, which managed by category so you can find easily what topic you are finding for. But this is the case of self help which you may find anywhere else on internet also.
Overall I don’t think they have enough knowledgeable people to handle their customer issues.
I only recommend this host for who want to start fresh website in cheap rate with bunch of features.
If you have running website I don’t think you should go with Namecheap because it can effect your website ranking with bad up-time ratio.
Yes, Namecheap is giving really mouth watering deals on hosting and domain but that you can find with other hosts too with great speed and up-time performance like Bluehost , Hostinger , Hostinger and SiteGround .
How Namecheap can Improve?
Overall I believe they have great offer and capacity to handle websites small to extra large but still there is some important changes they can made to improve their industry reputation:
- Invest on real support professionals.
- Upgrade servers with latest technologies.
- Improve maintenance staff to provide flawless up-time performance.
- Add more features like website cache to improve website response time.
- Add protection against malware and DDoS attacks on their servers.
If you are a current or old customer of Namecheap you can add your real experience here in the review section, Please make sure you add only your real experiences with the particular host.
